A period may feel cold and a smiling symbol may feel affectionate, but symbols do not have one meaning for every writer. Read the accompanying sentence and context.
Same symbol, different sentence
Compare fictional “Thanks :)” and “Late again :).” Both smile, but the wording differs. The second could be teasing or resentful; the relationship and surrounding exchange matter. AI choosing one reading does not confirm it.
What an export can lose
Stickers and images may disappear from a text file or remain only as placeholders. Losing a facial expression or picture can remove part of the intended message. Remember that AI may receive less information than the original app displayed.
Compare a person with their own habits
A writer who always uses full stops has not changed their tone merely by using one again. Do not judge them against someone else’s style. Even within the same person, compare similar situations; symbol frequency is not a direct measure of feelings.
Ask about ambiguity
“Was that a joke? I may have read it differently” leaves room to clarify. Understanding which expression caused confusion can be more practical than imposing a rule about using a certain number of emojis.
